MAKE VEHICULAR KILLING ILLEGAL

After the agriculture committee in the Wyoming House failed to pass House Bill 0331 on a tied vote, we now need the Wyoming Senate to listen to the people of Wyoming and vote yes on HB 0275 and add language that will expressly prohibit the killing of animals using a vehicle.

HB 0045 WILL BE HEARD TOMORROW MORNING IN THE SENATE TRW COMMITTEE – PLEASE REGISTER TO SPEAK!

After the expert testimony from Dr. Merav Ben-David and an investigation from our lawyer about the reasoning for this bill, there is no logical reason to remove otters from the protected species list.

Reasons to vote NO on HB 0045:

• THIS BILL IS UNNECESSARY! The Wyoming Game and Fish Department can live trap and move otters under current law – This is the main reasoning that was given as to why this bill was brought in the first place
• Otters are not recovered in Wyoming
• Otter populations are unknown in Wyoming
• Many waterways do not have otters and otters have not naturally migrated there – we need to find the reasons those waterways don’t have otters before we start killing them again
• Electric fencing is a better solution to otters preying upon sport fish in ponds because killing of otters just leaves an open space for more otters to return – this is conflict recycling, not conflict resolution
• There is no reason to think the WGFD won’t open a season on otters if they are removed from the protected species list
