Millions of people have heard — and continue to hear — the horrific story that broke last month regarding the torture and killing of a young wolf pup in Wyoming. The incident involved a level of depravity and cruelty that has left even seasoned animal advocates shocked and disoriented. It has raised global reactions including the call for Wyoming lawmakers to reform the state’s animal cruelty laws.

As a result of this pivotal event, citizens from all over the country are coming together in ever-increasing numbers to support change. One of those concerned citizens is biker Jonas Black, “America’s Outlaw Dog Trainer,” with a platform of almost 2 million followers. Vowing to do something to honor the memory of the tortured pup, Jonas and his brother announced they would ride from Austin, TX, to the Green River Bar in Daniel, WY, where the torture and killing of the young wolf pup took place.

What began as a small symbolic gesture to honor the sacrifice of the wolf pup, or “Hope,” as she has been named, has turned into a global phenomenon. “Hogs for Hope” is a charity ride to raise funds for wildlife organizations with boots on the ground in Wyoming, and it has gone viral, with celebs and influencers promoting it and millions of views across social media platforms.

The GoFundMe that initially aspired to raise only $10,000 has garnered over $100,000 in a mere two weeks. (Click here to make your contribution now.) 100% of proceeds will go to Wyoming Wildlife Advocates, Wolves of the Rockies, and Wyoming Wildlife Coalition.

The Daniel, Wyoming, incident was a catalyst event. The leaked video of the wolf pup torture and killing showed a level of wanton cruelty that has transcended political divides and has galvanized Wyoming and the rest of the country into action. The Wyoming wolf pup incident will be seen in retrospect as a watershed moment — and Hogs for Hope as the mavericks and unlikely heroes of that moment.

Hogs for Hope will kick off in Austin, TX, on May 22nd, and will be in Daniel on Sunday, May 26. They will then make their way to Jackson on the afternoon of May 26. All are welcome to contribute, ride, drive, and stand in solidarity.

Among other stops on their way to Daniel, the Hogs for Hope Rally will be at Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson at 4:30 p.m. on May 24th (in Loveland, Colorado). Meet the riders and enjoy free beer at the Flaming Gorge Harley-Davidson in Green River, Wyoming, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 25th.

Forging Solutions: Wyoming Wildlife Coalition

The Wyoming Wildlife Coalition (WWC) was formed to bring Wyoming people together from different fields to create wildlife solutions on issues where unity is found. We are hunters, ranchers, wildlife organizations, animal advocates, and citizens who have come together to draw the line on wildlife cruelty, and to stop the unethical and unsportsmanlike practice of running down and killing wildlife, including predators, with mechanized machines.

A recent poll conducted in Wyoming shows that 71% of Wyoming likely voters believe the actions taken against the wolf in Daniel, WY was animal cruelty, and 73% of Wyoming voters do not believe a snowmobile should be used to strike, injure, or kill predators.

The Wyoming Draws the Line campaign was created to address the wolf torture incident in Daniel, Wy., because we, like so many others in Wyoming, believe more must be done to stop animal cruelty. Outlawing the abuse of wild animals is our legislative goal.

“Know where to draw the line,” is a code in the Wyoming Cowboy Code of Ethics and we believe it epitomizes our endeavor and the ideals of most Wyomingites in the humane treatment of animals.
