Sage Grouse Illustration

Animal Facts

Sage grouse have a specialized stomach that allows them to digest the tough leaves of sagebrush. Males have fluffy white chests and impressive tails, while females have mostly grey and brown coloration.

Conservation Challenges

These unique native birds are on the brink of being endangered due to habitat loss. Expansion of mining and mineral extraction in the state is decimating the lands they need, and the population is shrinking at a startling rate.
